On 3 May 2024, representatives of Frankfurter Buchmesse (Book Fair) and Messe Frankfurt signed the extension of the contract until the end of 2028.
This continues a good tradition: the largest international book fair has been held in the halls of Messe Frankfurt since 1951 – even during the pandemic years and under challenging conditions. The new contractual agreement focuses on post-pandemic normality and secures Frankfurt as an international trade fair location. In addition, both contracting parties prioritise the issue of sustainability in the staging of the event.
"Frankfurter Buchmesse is one of the world's largest meeting places for open, international, social and political discourse. This makes the event invaluable for Frankfurt, the cradle of democracy in Germany. Especially in light of this year's 75th anniversary of the German constitution, I am delighted that Frankfurter Buchmesse has decided to remain loyal to this location", says Mike Josef, lord mayor of Frankfurt am Main.
"I am very pleased to be able to formalise the cooperation between Frankfurter Buchmesse and Messe Frankfurt for the coming years. The cultural city of Frankfurt, Messe Frankfurt and Frankfurter Buchmesse belong together. Frankfurt is Germany's most international city, and we are and will remain Frankfurt's most international trade fair", says Juergen Boos, director of Frankfurter Buchmesse.
Uwe Behm, member of the board of management of Messe Frankfurt, adds: "Frankfurter Buchmesse is not only a unique event that contributes to the city's global brand and reputation, but also contributes to the prosperity of Frankfurt and the entire region through the turnover generated by hotels, restaurants, taxi companies and many other service providers. We are delighted that Messe Frankfurt can continue to provide its exhibition centre and services in this way."
